It's a metaphor.
"There is no shortage of fault to be found amid our stars."
The fault in our stars, there is this scene "They don't kill you unless you light them. And I've never lit one. It's a metaphor, see: You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do it's killing."-
They don't kill you unless you light them. This whole sentence of about eight words hold so much of power, so intense in it's own form. (Smoking is mere a metaphor) but when you look down in it's meaning, it can pull apart muscle and bone giving you one of those self realization, while you getting lost in that moment and skipping the next dialogue because your mind was still on it.
Dear Augustus,
When you walked into Hazel's life; neither she nor any of us had any idea of the amount of difference you were going to make in each one of our lives. You changed Hazel from someone who has forgotten to live life because of the fear of death to someone who started enjoying life to the fullest. You were indeed an angel in her life and there are so many Hazel's out there waiting for their Augustus Waters.
The time I heard you saying, "Oh, I wouldn't mind, Hazel Grace. It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you" you showed me a whole new idea of love. We are a generation of people who are often scared of falling in love because of the fear of getting our hearts broken. But you, oh boy you taught us that life is full of choices and we should be proud of ours. You taught us to love selflessly without any expectations.
You said, "The world isn't a wish granting factory" yet you managed to take Hazel to Amsterdam to meet Peter and tried to fulfill her biggest dream.
it's you who taught me that stories can be beautiful without happy endings also, just like yours and Hazel. Whenever I go through your quotes and movie clips, I always hope that you stayed longer.
You fell in love with all those little things of her that most of us usually ignore. "I fell in love the way you fall asleep. Slowly, and then, all at once" You won me here, Augustus.
I never thought a fictional character would mean so much to me. But then, calling you a fictional character wouldn't be justice for everything you did for me. You're someone who taught me the real meaning of life. Life has been so hard on you, still you loved it and made others also fall in love with it. You brought happiness and light in everyone's life, when you yourself were struggling with Cancer.
The moment you said; after forever "Maybe okay will be our always" I'd felt it in my bones. You gave me a forever within the numbered pages and for that I'm grateful.
With love, Someone who's a good person but a shitty writer just like you.
Maybe she wasn't loved widely, but she was loved deeply. -Augustus Waters.
I love her. God, I love her. I am so lucky to love her, Van Houten, You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, but you do have a say in who hurts you.
And I like my choices. I hope she likes hers. Okay, Hazel Grace?" -Augustus Waters.
